Description
This unique product is an encapsulated Salicylic Acid in Sodium Polyacrylate that renders salicylic acid water-soluble for various applications in personal care and cosmetics including anti-acne, anti-microbial, Sebum control, anti-inflammation, and exfoliation. It is developed to overcome the existing challenges in developing water-based salicylic acid products, mainly: poor solubility in water-based systems, precipitation of salicylic acid in cosmetics, and most importantly skin irritations resulting from poor solubility of salicylic acid. It is provided in a dry powder format and releases active salicylic acid with high aqueous solubility while giving the option of developing organic solvent-free formulations. It has a high concentration of salicylic acid at 50%, is compatible with carbomer-based formulations, offers absolute clarity in solution, and is non-hygroscopic in nature.
Properties: anti-acne, anti-microbial, Sebum control, anti-inflammation, and exfoliation
Appearance: Off-white to pale pink powder
Standard Shelf Life: 5 years, provided it is stored in dry, clean, opaque sealed containers at room temperature [˂ 25°C ].
CAS: 69-72-7 & 9003-04-7
INCI Name: Salicylic Acid & Sodium Polyacrylate
Use level and Method: 2-4%(1-2% of active Salicylic acid). Maximum suggested dosing depends on the regulatory limits of the country of use of the final product. It is suggested to use 4g in 100ml water (Active Salicylic acid of 2% w/v maximum). pH needs to be measured before using the product ut the expected pH is between 4-6 when 4% of the product is used in a solution.
Precautions: The pH value has to be measured after adding salicylic acid as it can lower the pH significantly. A pH of lower than 3.5 should be avoided as skin irritations can occur. To avoid excess peeling/irritation of the skin be careful when using salicylic acid together with abrasive soaps or cleansers, alcohol-containing products, or other topical acne or peeling products (e.g. benzoyl peroxide, resorcinol, sulfur, tretinoin), soaps or cosmetics that dry the skin.
Warnings: Salicylic acid should be used with caution in patients with chronic renal (kidney) insufficiency, gastric ulcer, severe anemia, patients intolerant to salicylate, or diabetes. Avoid prolonged and excessive use on large areas of the body or on broken or inflamed skin. Avoid contact with eyes, mouth, or another mucous membrane. It should also be used with caution on the extremities of patients with impaired peripheral circulation. Please refer to the regulatory guidelines of the country of use and also the Material’s safety data sheet for the safety of this product.
Applications: Skin toner, Serum, Gel, Lotion, Cream, Cleansing Foam, Shampoo, etc.
Country of Origin: India
Raw material source: Synthetic (Emulsification of active salicylic acid and polymeric matrix based medium)
